CLAY COUNTY, Fla. —

Hundreds of Confederate flags will be on parade Saturday afternoon in Clay County.

The Southern Heritage Confederate Flag Rally will begin in Middleburg.

Close to 300 people are expected to fly the Confederate flag on their vehicle.

Event organizers say this is in direct response to national outcry for the flag to come down in the wake of the Charleston church massacre.
However, officials say they want to be very clear the parade is about celebrating Southern heritage and not racism.

“We’re standing up for our rights, we’re voicing our opinion, we do not want to see the Southern flag come down,” said event organizer Rob Welton.

Still, some say they’re not a fan of the idea.

“Slavery was a big part of the war, and if you say Southern heritage this was the flag you flew,” said Dominique Stewart.

Parade organizers say if members of a group with racist ties, such as the KKK, show up to the rally, they will be asked to leave.
